Steve Jobs died today at the age of 56. While we loved Steve for OS X, the MacBook Air, the iPhone, and the iPad, as computer geeks, we got our first taste of computing back in the early 1980s with the introduction of the Apple IIe.
The computing power was enormous! It had a whopping 64 KB off RAM and the 5 1/4" floppy drive was sweet! Hours a day were spent typing things like:

10 PRINT "HELLO"
20 GOTO 10

What's so special about 64KB of RAM and sitting at a command prompt all day typing in code in BASIC? Not much, really, but if you think about it, it's what laid the foundation for millions of us computer geeks to go on to develop complex applications in C and C++, create websites like Google, Facebook, and Twitter, and develop devices like the iPhone 4S which packs a punch that is infinitely more powerful than the Apple IIe in the palm of your hand!

We will always be thankful, Steve, for people like you, Steve Wozniak, Bill Gates, Larry Ellison, Michael Dell, Marc Andreessen, Linus Torvalds, and all of the other men and women that made the wonderful world of technology we see in 2011 possible!

Sincerely,
Geekbauchery
