Our first stop was the classic video game setup. There were a few classic video games available to play, but the wife and I decided to play Mario Kart because racing games are our favorite. After putting her in her place by placing 2nd (she placed 8th), we moved on to the bar where the lovely bartender was kind enough to serve us up some of the best rum and Cokes we've ever had!
We meandered around for a bit at the Granada, taking in all the sights of the event, and then we stopped by the artists' tables where local artists were drawing up some of our favorite comic book and video game characters. A donation would get you an original work of art and the proceeds went to the Lawrence Humane Society, which is pretty badass!
Since my kid loves the character Tails from Sonic the Hedgehog, we asked that one of the artists draw him. Low and behold, the artist was none other than Joel from Astrokitty! I've tweeted with him a few times, and it was great to finally meet him in person. There was chitchat about geek babes, comic books, and Twitter, which always makes for an interesting night! Joel whipped up an awesome drawing of Tails and then, unfortunately, the wife and I had to go run some errands before heading home for the night.
Here are some of the highlights, in photos, from our excursion to The LEVEL GRIND! Thanks for putting on such a kick-ass event, guys! We hope to do it again next year! And oh, by the way, no one ever came up to me and said, "Show me your boner!" so I could give them the $1 bill with the word BONER written on it! Maybe next time!
